Abu Dhabi International Airport’s Northern Runway reopen

Abu Dhabi International Airport’s Northern Runway (13L/31R) has reopened ahead of schedule after undergoing significant rehabilitation and upgrades. The project, part of the airport’s modernization efforts, involved resurfacing the runway with 210,000 tons of asphalt and introducing advanced technological systems. These upgrades include a new ground visibility monitoring system and an improved Instrument Landing System (ILS) for enhanced safety and efficiency, particularly in poor weather conditions.

In line with sustainable practices, over 1,200 energy-intensive halogen lights were replaced with eco-friendly LED lighting. The completion of this project ahead of schedule highlights Abu Dhabi Airports’ focus on innovation, sustainability, and operational excellence. The reopening of the Northern Runway allows the airport to resume dual-runway operations, positioning it to handle increasing air traffic demands.

This successful project supports Abu Dhabi’s broader vision for sustainable growth in aviation, ensuring that the airport can maintain its status as a key international hub.
