The UK Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, has announced a significant £1.1 billion ($1.4 billion) investment in London-Stansted Airport, unveiled at the International Investment Summit on October 14, 2024. This project, led by Manchester Airport Group (MAG), includes a £600 million ($782 million) terminal extension and £500 million ($651 million) improvements to the existing facilities. The five-year initiative, expected to create 5,000 jobs, will double the airport’s economic contribution to the UK, enhancing air routes, expanding the security hall, and upgrading lounges, shops, and restaurants.

Additional developments include a solar farm, upgrades to wayfinding systems, and refurbished amenities. The expansion aligns with the UK’s commitment to economic growth and environmental standards. The construction is set to begin in 2025, with completion expected in two to three years.

This investment comes during a record-breaking period for Stansted, which served 29.3 million passengers in the year to September 2024. The airport continues to expand its network with new airlines and aims to further enhance passenger experience.
